The Power of Healing: Releasing the Pain of the Past and Fear of the Future
What is child abuse? Child abuse is when a parent or caregiver, whether through action or failing to act, causes injury, death, emotional harm, or risk of serious harm to a child. There are many forms of child maltreatment, including neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, exploitation, and emotional abuse.
What is sexual abuse? Sexual abuse is any sexual activity that occurs without consent. Also referred to as sexual assault or sexual violence, it includes unwanted sexual touching, forced oral sex, and rape, among other sexual acts. It’s not the survivor’s fault that they were assaulted.
IPSV includes but is not limited to:
Maladaptive Coping Behavior: Anything that we utilize to soothe uncomfortable emotional states. I work at addressing the trauma that leads to Maladaptive Coping Behavior.
Including but not limited to the following:
Cognitive Restructuring: Often times it is an individual’s distorted thoughts that are anxiety-producing. The ability to challenge and manage one’s “self-talk” in a moment of high unease – and reshape the thoughts from negative to positive – can minimize the impact of the stress-related episode or event.
Trauma survivors have been conditioned to believe that the things that happened to them are their fault, that no one will believe them. They live under a cloak of shame and self-hatred. They are experiencing normal reactions to abnormal situations. There will never be any judgement or invalidation.
